** GUN TIME vs CHIP TIME – Dam to Dam official results. May 30, 2015 the posted results at the race site were the official or gun time of each participant. This is the time elapsed from the actual moment of the start of the race until an individual crossed the finish line. The results at damtodam.com for overall results are by chip time. BUT the results for top age division age division winners are by gun time. For example, if it takes you five minutes to cross the start line and you run the race in 1 hour 55 minutes, your official time is 1:55:00 and your net or chip time is 1:50:00. Overall results will be 1:55:00 and age division/top runner will be 1:50:00.
The rules governing US and international road racing, including Dam to Dam, requires that gun time be used to determine race placement, official timing and awards. This preserves the “first runner, first place” concept of running.
